This is Hamlet Education…
At Hamlet Education, we believe that the college admissions journey should be a path of self-discovery, not just a pursuit of prestige. Our mission is to empower students to uncover their authentic selves and find colleges where they can truly thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our Why & How
Connecting Students to Their True North
At Hamlet Education, we believe every student deserves a college experience where they can thrive—not just settle. Our mission is to empower students to discover their authentic selves and find colleges that truly align with their aspirations, values, and goals.
Whether you’re navigating this process for the first time or transferring, we simplify and personalize the path forward.
Crafting a Tailored Journey
The college admissions process is often framed as a means of molding students to fit an institution. At Hamlet Education, we turn that idea on its head. Instead, we help students tap into their strengths, passions, and individuality to discover colleges where they can genuinely excel academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our process is rooted in self-exploration and placing students in schools that feel not just “good on paper” but truly right for them.
Challenging the Typical Approach
Terms like “safety school” or “reach school” reduce colleges to rankings and set up a mindset of settling or aiming for ego-driven prestige. We reject that narrative. At Hamlet Education:
We redefine “fit” as a deep understanding of a student’s needs and goals.
We guide families to rethink “reaches” as intentional choices rooted in genuine curiosity and alignment with a student’s aspirations.
We focus on creating college lists where every option is a joyful possibility, not a fallback or stretch.
Our Methodology
-
Self-Discovery
We begin by helping students uncover their goals, interests, and values.
-
Personalized Insight
Armed with this knowledge, we build tailored college lists that include opportunities students might never have considered.
-
Guided Confidence
From applications to essays, we give students the tools and support to communicate their unique stories effectively and confidently.
-
Celebrating Successes
We measure success not by a row of acceptance letters but by the joy and excitement a student feels about their chosen college.

Founder
Stephanie McCaine has spent decades working at the intersection of college admissions and enrollment management. Her background includes roles in traditional undergraduate, international, transfer, arts, and graduate admissions at a range of institutions—including Berklee College of Music and Purchase College, SUNY, where she served as Director of Admission.
That role provided her with a front-row seat to how colleges evaluate applications, shape incoming classes, and balance institutional priorities with student potential. This insider perspective—combined with a deep respect for each student’s story—now informs the way she guides families with insight, empathy, and strategic clarity.
In recent years, Stephanie has worked in admissions at the independent school level, gaining a profound understanding of how students develop their academic identities, discover their strengths, and begin to articulate who they are becoming.
Known affectionately as the “College Whisperer,” Stephanie is valued for her intuitive, student-centered approach to helping young people find schools where they’ll feel seen, supported, and inspired. She believes the best college experiences begin with self-awareness—not rankings or checklists—and that success is personal, not prescriptive.
As a member of both NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling) and IECA (Independent Educational Consultants Association), Stephanie upholds the highest professional standards. She has visited nearly 100 college campuses—and continues to visit more—bringing families up-to-date insight on evolving programs, campus culture, and admissions trends. She also draws from a wide network of colleagues across the country to ensure her guidance is timely, grounded, and deeply informed.
When she’s not working with students, Stephanie serves on her local town board, finds peace along the coast of Maine, and spends time with her family—and their two dogs, Chester and Zoey.
